What is your favorite book and/or author, and what draws you to them?
Like a lot of people, I have a hard time picking just a single favorite book or author. But if you are forcing me…I’ll go with Lois McMaster Bujold. I’ve read and reread various books in the Vorkosigan series until they are falling apart. Her plotting and language and her characters….all of it are perfection. The humor, too, is a big draw.
Is this your first book? If not, what was the first book you ever finished writing?
I’ve participated in NaNoWriMo several times, even getting to 50K…twice before I think? Unfortunately, that’s as far as I have ever gotten. I haven’t continued on and finished anything. I’m a much better editor than I am a writer, but I keep reminding myself that you can’t edit words you haven’t written, so I keep trying. I’m currently really far ahead of the official “on track” wordcount pace which is only partly awesome….I’ve now reached the part of my outline where I need to start pantsing. The first 22K words were partly based on something I had done a few years ago or was well planned out.
What’s the working title of your NaNoWriMo17 project?
It’s so clever. It’s… “UNTITLED”
Seriously, how do you all pick titles for books you haven’t written yet?
Give us an elevator pitch of your project.
Molly is a comic book creator who makes comics about her dad, who used to be an actual superhero until he disappeared. She has denied her own super abilities and must come to terms with them when she is called on to help a father save his daughter from a kidnapper and maybe save the world in the process, too.
Share your favorite line/short paragraph from your book so far.
I wasn’t about to bring a colored pencil to a gunfight.
How did you hear about the Mighty Pens?
I saw something on Twitter from…I don’t even remember which author it was! Someone shared a link and then I kept seeing links.
What inspired you to join the Mighty Pens?
The idea of raising money for such an important cause as education for girls and the chance to find a smaller community within the enormous beast that is the NaNoWriMo event were both appealing. It was actually a little bit of a split second decision, but I’m so glad I joined in. I’m really competitive, so seeing others succeed has made me want to do so as well.
Congratulations once more, Suzanne!! And keep on keeping on!!
