All Call for Mentors and Donors
All right, so good problem to have: we’ve got a LOT of folks signing up to join Team Mighty Pens, 2018. (Haven’t joined yet? Be part of our awesome community, raise money for an excellent cause, and be eligible for sweet prizes!)
With that in mind, if anyone out there might still be interested in being a mentor, we’re opening the doors up again. I’ve put the requirements and expectations for our mentors at the bottom of this post. Send us an email if you’re interested. Either way, thank you for being part of the Mighty Pens team, too <3 <3 <3
We are also always still looking for more industry donations. If you’re an author, agent, editor, or artist, please please consider donating, and helping us spread the word to more folks. These fundraising and writing prizes help encourage our participants to meet their word and donation goals. We try to make a variety of prizes accessible to all of our participants–so even if someone didn’t raise $1000 or write 50,000 words, they can still know that their stories and efforts were part of the team.
Donations can be just about anything. If you’re an artist, character portraits or cool art in general is awesome! Sensitivity reads? Yes, please. Are you a linguist, scientist, historian, etc., in your day job? A consult of some kind to share your expertise for someone’s world building would be awesome. Of course we also love critiques from our industry experts, large and small! Book swag, signed books, ARCs, all are welcome and appreciated. And if you know someone who might be interested in donating, please spread the word.
Here are some more fun prizes already offered up:
- Audiobook of Erin Bowman’s Retribution Rails
- A character portrait, bust up, from Diana Pinguicha
- Poison’s Kiss and Poison’s Cage, with bookmarks, from Breeana Shields
- Query and first 10pg critique by Agent Jennifer March Soloway
- Query and first 5pg critique by Agent Suzie Townsend
- A full MS critique from freelance editor Jessica Hatch
We’re so grateful for everyone who’s already donated and also for all of our amazing, amazing Administrative, Sprinter, and Mentor volunteers. You guys are the beeeest.
Mighty Pens Mentor
- What: Motivated folks who participated last year, willing to at least answer questions about the Mighty Pens for new participants and give them pointers on fundraising, but also maybe even encouraging them past writer’s block, swapping recipes, screaming about awesome books–the sky’s the limit.
- How: When new participants sign up, they can choose to be matched with a mentor — up to five new participants per mentor. You can work together how you want: via email, twitter, discord, messenger pigeon…. Just be there to answer their questions and help them out because, well, sometimes things are confusing.
- Sign me up!: You participated last year? Sweet! Send an email to themightypens2017 @ gmail.com. Make sure you include an email that you check often.
