The Valley of Lost Balloons
After transforming into a balloon animal, a young clown and his father must help lost balloons escape from the clouds and return home.
“Where do you think they go, Dad-e-o? You know, when they fly away?” I untied the string from my wrist and peered through the balloon like a kaleidoscope, admiring the sunlight filtering through its transparent blue skin. Beyond, the world morphed into a different realm, an upside-down place, something curious and magical.
“Where do you think, Freddy?” Dad laughed. “Wherever you believe it is, that’s where they go. To that place beyond the horizon, high above the clouds.”
“You mean outer space?” I removed the balloon from my face and stared into the sky. “That would be so dang cool!”
“Only one way to find out.”
I let go of the balloon. We watched as it wavered in the light October breeze, spinning delicately in place, pirouetting and somersaulting the next, until the wind whisked it away.
I could’ve sworn it had a life of its own.
Good job again, Austin! Can’t wait to hear from you again 🙂
