So our awesome sprinter, Leslie, has also already reached Gold Pen, but she’s still getting her Silver Pen shout out! Congratulations on BOTH achievements, Leslie! So glad to have you as one of our sprinters, too. A snippet from her NaNo project, Guardian of Earth, is below. Read on and let her know what you think <3
Guardian of Earth
A young girl inherits a mysterious orb, and with it, the power to save her best friend and protect this Realm.
“It has to be you. Bring her back. You’ll understand why after you get there.”
Then, with more force than she could have possibly held in her little body, she shoved me. My body careened toward the doorway. Instead of fading, it grew darker, more solid as I approached.
As my hand brushed the threshold, it faded into the darkness, just like Alex had. It didn’t hurt, but my whole hand felt like it was asleep, tiny needle like stinging coursing up and down. I wiggled my invisible fingers, and could still feel them brush against each other, even though I couldn’t see them.
Slowly, my body was being sucked in, closer and closer, and the prickling raced across my leg, then my chest, and face.
“Tell her,” a small voice said behind me, “that I’m sorry.”
Then, I took the final step into the darkness.
