MIGHTY PEN: Wildfaeriecaps
MOAR WINNERS. Ahhh, it’s so great to see everyone succeeding–but if you’re story isn’t finished, don’t stop! Trust me, the momentum is awesome.
Today’s Mighty Pen is Wildfaeriecaps, seriously one of our sweetest participants. If you didn’t check out the excerpt from her NaNo project, (Woefully Still) Untitled , go read it now! And then check out her interview, and be sure to send her your congrats, too 😉
Way to be, lady! So happy for you <3
Interview with a Mighty Pen: Wildfaeriecaps
What’s one thing that changed in your expectations for your project from November 1 to now?
Ha. This is funny to me because when I signed up for NaNoWriMo on a total whim I honestly expected that I would chicken out like I did two years ago. The fact that I didn’t just blows my mind.
What moment in NaNoWriMo18 stands out the most to you?
Honestly, joining my first sprint. I felt awkward and fake and self-conscious even though it wasn’t like anyone knew I was there and writing. But then the words just came and it was so satisfying. It was amazing to realize that writing was something I could do alone, but with people.
What’s something you’ve learned, or that you’re proud of, from this year’s NaNo?
I honestly didn’t think I’d succeed. I had a vague idea of a story – no outline, little plot, one character. But somehow it grew and changed and became a thing unto itself. That never would have happened without the encouragement and support that I found among The Might Pens. I’ve always been a loner but opening myself up to the possibility of being a part of a community was both terrifying and ultimately the most rewarding thing. I’m proud of myself for taking that step and of our entire community for being awesome and welcoming.
Any advice for yourself or others for next year’s NaNo, if you’re able to participate again?
Find a community, even if you think you won’t actually speak up. Sprints are lifesavers. I never thought I would say that, but there’s something safe about writing for a short burst of time with other people. Trust yourself, even when your words take you in a direction you hadn’t planned. Enjoy the ride and remember to take care of yourself.
