Mighty Pens Check-In
It’s the first week of NaNoWriMo! We hope everyone is killing their early writing goals! But even if you’re feeling a little stressed this week, that’s totally fine too. There is absolutely no pressure here at Mighty Pens HQ. There’s plenty of time left in the month and remember: Any words are good words. We know this hasn’t been the easiest week to start NaNo, but we are so proud of all our volunteers and participants for making the magic happen.
Fundraising Tally
It’s just been a few days, but we are already over 20% of the way to our goal of raising $10,000 for Every Mother Counts! And if you’re doing the math on that real quick, you’re right! So far over $2,000 going to our charity this year.

We are seriously so excited. And you guys, that doesn’t even include all of the money that our participants have donated to NaNoWriMo! To be eligible for prizes, everyone has to donate the initial $10 to NaNoWriMo. So, not only are we helping to support maternal health, we’re helping the NaNoWriMo organization to grow and provide tools and resources to writing programs all over the country!
Where does the money go?
That’s a great question! Well, all of the money we raise for EMC goes directly to them and their mission of improving maternal health in the United States and around the world. Donations can help with things like:
- Providing expectant mothers with prenatal third trimester home care kits
- Helping community-based doula organizations provide new moms with necessities like groceries and diapers
- Equiping a midwife or doula with technology and training to provide telehealth support to expecting moms
- Covering the costs of receiving support throughout pregnancy, childbirth and postpartum period for low-income women
- Helping staff a maternal health support hotline for pregnant women during COVID-19
- And more!

Word Count Tally
If raising money for a great cause isn’t exciting enough, we have written soooo many words in just a few days! Everyone is really killing it. Keep it up, darlings, this is only the beginning.
Over 130,000 Words Written
Wow! That’s seriously incredible. And keep in mind that this number is always changing! This week has already seen several of our fabulous writers receive the Bronze Pen badge for 5,000 words and a special few have even reached the Silver Pen badge with 15,000 words! Can you say overachievers? Just kidding! We’re so proud of everyone who is putting in the work and doing the thing.
